m2r Education and the National Tutoring Programme

National Tutoring Programme Tuition Partner, m2r Education, is an accredited Tuition Partner providing both face-to-face and online tuition to mainstream primary and secondary schools, along with alternative provision and SEND schools. 

m2r Education's tutoring is targeted at literacy and numeracy for KS1 and KS2 and English and maths for KS4. The tutors are all qualified teachers with substantial experience within mainstream schools and are assigned based on suitability. 

Ash Field Academy

Ash Field Academy is a specialist school catering to pupils from ages 4 to 19, serving the areas of Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland. The school specialises in ensuring an excellent education for pupils who have complex medical conditions or serious physical disabilities. m2r Education was invited by Ash Field Academy to provide tuition to some of its pupils. 

Face-to-face and online tuition

The leaders at Ash Field Academy identified pupils who would benefit from targeted specialist support to improve their knowledge in both Maths and Statistics. m2r Education provided both small group and 1-to-1 tuition with the aim of preparing pupils to sit national exams in Summer 2024. 

One pupil who received tuition initially struggled with confidence and would often answer questions with "I don't know" or "I am not sure". Through the course of tutoring, the pupil's confidence developed to a stage where not only were they answering questions but would sometimes do so without being prompted. In addition, the pupil has gained the confidence and agency to ask questions and stop the tutor for further clarification when needed.  What's more, the pupil's teachers and teaching assistants observed a noticeable improvement in the pupil's confidence.

Pupil feedback for the tutoring has largely been positive, with any suggestions incorporated accordingly.

Jess Renner, Vice Principal, Teaching and Learning at Ash Field Academy said: "The tutoring at Ash Field allows our pupils to sit qualifications that they otherwise wouldn't be able to take. Our school is very small and specialist, and therefore, our classes are small. If a pupil shows aptitude for a specific subject, we can't necessarily always offer it if it doesn't work with the rest of our curriculum offer or timetable and therefore, tutoring means we can provide additional challenge where it's most needed in a way that is bespoke to the individual pupil. It gives our pupils confidence in their own abilities and will make a significant difference to their futures." 

m2r Education Tutor, Mariam, said: "The tutoring at Ash Field Academy has allowed me to build on being a better teacher as well as understanding the similarities and differences of how mainstream and SEND schools work. I have also learnt the meaning of 'pace' whilst teaching at Ash-Field and how important it is to guide pupils through their journey and not just teach them what to do and what not to do in mathematics."
