Teaching Placements

Placements are offered in Private Language Centres (Eikaiwas) and Public Schools.

Public Schools

• Teaching Assistant role
• Approximately 50% class support, 50% class leading

Private Language Centres (Eikaiwas)

• Greater independence and responsibility

Your Role as a TEFL Teacher

• 20–30 hours per week
• 2 days off per week
• Create lesson plans and deliver engaging lessons

Requirements

To qualify for the Japan TEFL Internship, you must:

• Be a fluent English speaker
• Have completed a 120-hour TEFL course (included with internship)
• Be aged 21–40 (exceptions considered)
• Have 12 years of schooling in English and hold a Bachelor’s degree
• Have no visible tattoos that cannot be covered
• Be in good health and appropriately vaccinated
• Have a clear criminal record
• Hold an international driving permit (required only for specific public-school placements)
• Travel alone (single-status visa requirement)
